Hanbok Sticker photos / Purikura

A few months ago (long time ago I know) I went with one of my best friends to Insadong to take sticker photos. It was actually the same day as when I took my photos at the dress up cafe. After the dress cafe me and my friend Rebecca got the idea to go to Insadong to take sticker photos because there you can wear Hanbok for free while taking pictures. This was one of the last times I saw Rebecca, sadly she had to go back to her home country, one of the reasons why we took so many pictures that day. Isn't it sad when you meet someone you like so much, and someone you become instant friend with after meeting once and then they have to move to the other side of the world? Yup, this is what have happend to me so many times during my stay in Korea. But on the bright side, she is from Sweden, therefor it's so close to my home country Norway so we know we will see each other again someday, so no worries <3 again="" alot="" and="" be="" do="" drink="" eat="" even="" fun="" going="" have="" her.="" her="" hongdae="" i="" if="" in="" know="" korea.="" miss="" nbsp="" not="" p="" same="" see="" the="" to="" will="" without="">

So I'm posting these sticker photos mostly because I'm afraid my computer will crash someday, and that I will loose the originals. That would be horrible. And a side note, the quality might not be the best, but thats fine.  At least it will be a day I will never forget.

Adventures with me~ Studying for finals

Sorry for being so quiet lately. It's now my finals week and I've been busy with studying and trying to pass my tests. I'm actually in a coffeeshop right now togehter with my boyfriend reading for my last test on friday. Just few days left and I'm free and I can start to enjoy my summer! 

Even if I've been extremly busy and very stressed I have remembred to film some now and then. And good news....I got my camera to work! So no more filming with my crappy cellphone. After my test on friday I will go to my boyfriends hometown on Saturday and stay there for some weeks. I will also attend my boyfriends cousin wedding on Saturday also, one of the reasons why we are going to his hometown. There I will have time to relax and enjoy my life again without studying my ass off. 

Anyway, here is my short video from the past days. And a short warning before watching the video, it contains food, mostly food...So if you hate food or are very hungry, don't watch.

Adventures with me~ Hongdae

Today I met up with my friend Sanna to go Hongdae together. It's one of the few times I've been to Hongdae during daytime, and not at night drinking with my friends.

 
We decided to meetup to eat lunch together and do some shopping. We ate at Sushi in Sushi, a famous sushi buffet (always a long lone to get a table). So if you ever are in Hongdae and want some sushi, go there! Its close to exit 9. When you see Etude House turn right and walk for 2 minutes. Its always crowded at Sushi in Sushi because its very cheap and has alot of food! Not only sushi, but also potato, salads, different Korean foods, cakes, fruit, beverage, waffles,soups, ice cream and so on. All these foods, and you get 1 and a half hour to eat as much as you are able to.

After eating and talking for an hour we went out on our shopping mission. Hongdae has alot of great stores, and one of the few places that sell alternative clothing style. Our favorite that we always visit together is Ultra Fashion. When we saw it first time we were confused if it were a clothing store as it said on the sign or a club. The whole store has a club feeling about it, disco light, neon light, club music and the whole package. "Is it a club or is it a store?" Why go to one if you can go to both?

After the awesome club store we just went for a long walk. And today was super hot outside so we had to sit down to relax. On our way back from the clothing store to the main shopping street near the sushi place we went to a small cute coffee shop where we bought some ice coffee and brought it to the Hongdae park to relax.

Our fun day together ended up with going to a condom store. You know Hongdae is alternative place when you find a store that sell those kinda stuff. These things are very tabu in Korea, and other similar stores here are well hidden without any windows and in weird places.

I ended up buying two tshirts, both on sale, cheap student here!! One for my boyfriend, a coke shirt, because he loves drinking coke too much. And a shirt for me with a unicorn print on. Maybe some have already seen my sweather which is almost same. Finally got the tshirt version! Yey!

Adventure with me~ Shopping

From today and on. I've decided to start with something new and exciting! (or not so exciting maybe...).I realised that I've take too many photoes, and too many videos and I share them with no one what so ever. So now for the first time I made a video blog. And before I show you my first ever video. I just want to warn everyone about my sucky english in this video. Because it's the first time I record when I'm all alone I feel so awkward talking to myself that I also start talking with a weird english accent, forgive me everyone! Weirdly enough, no one on the the street looked weird at me?

Long time no see

This blog have been dead for like 2-3 weeks now, wops....

I have been so busy with midterms. Sadly, I have gotten some of the midterms scores back already, and some of them is really bad. First time I've got a C on any test in Korea before ( a C in Korea is like super bad, idiot bad). Well, at least I tried even if my test scores suck badly.

After I finished my midterms I had another test waiting.  On saturday I had to take IELTS test, english test for those who don't know. Reason why I'm taking a english test is because I want to transfer to another university, but still same major and in same country of course. 

The test lasted like forever... It started 8 in the morning and at 12, four hours later I had a 4 hours break before my last part of the test, the speaking interview part. 

During my four hour boring break I walked around Dongguk University where I took the test. It was superhooot on saturday, at the warmest it was +28 C. When I woke up that day it was not that warm, so stupid me wore a long-arm sweater. I almost died while walking outside.

I had to save myself with going to the nearest coffeeshop I could find.

And oh boy was I lucky. I found a Tous Les Jours not far from the university. Mostly this coffee shop, bread store chain got very small shops. But this one is the biggest Tous Les Jours I have ever seen. I took some photoes because I wanted to show my boyfriend, but my phone battery died after taking just a few.

So much deliciousness right??

Surprise Present ~

Just want to share my surprise present I got from my boyfriend today.  He came home after studying and said he had something he wanted to show me. My boyfriend handed me a red backpack, first I thought he had bought it for himself and wanted to show me. But when he said it was for me I got really surprised. Giving me a new bag from school is really sweet and thoughtful. My current pink bag is too small for me to take my laptop with me, and I really need my laptop for school to takes notes. Too lazy to write everything by hand. 

After jumping from happiness because of my new bag my boyfriend told me to open the bag also. Inside I could find the new 2NE1 cd. I'm not a big kpop fan (sorry!) but I love 2NE1 and I've been wanting to buy this cd. I also found a pair of pink slippers and 5 pairs of socks. I been really needing both slippers and socks. He though of everything I have been needing and wanting to buy for myself. Lastly I also got a poster of 2NE1 which have gotten it's space over my bed. 

 Thank you my bf! Tomorrow I will wear my new bags, cute money socks and listen to my new cd on my way to school.

 And tonight I will sleep under my new poster.

Nails

One of the things that I have changed about myself since I moved to Korea is that I take more care of my look, and that means that I spend more time on small things like my nails. Before I moved to Korea I didn't really care about my nails, I did not always wear nailpolish either. But now after seeing nailshops on every street corner I have become more aware of my nails and how they look. But I'm a poor university student, so even if there are nailshops everywhere I don't have money to go back and fix my nails whenever they need a fresh up even if going to nailshop here is quite cheap, at least cheap compared to my country!

Because I've learned to love my nails and pay attention to my nails as much as my hair I've grown a hobby to fix my nails often, I have become a hugh fan of nailart. I love watching youtube videos about different nail designs and I have bought korean nailart books to help me to become better. 

I thought I would show some of my latest look on my nails I've done myself even if they are not very professional yet.

This is one of my favorite looks.  It's simple to make but still looks very pretty! Its a white basecolor with sparkles and swarovski stones. 

Gold nails with a mirror effect. From one of the first days in desember when I got inspired by my small christmas tree and its ornaments.

 

Nails also inspired by christmas three and santa! Got santa, sweater print, snowman, and a three on my nails.

Pink Pikachu nails and Minion nails. I were a hugh pokemon fan in elementry school and I still find Pikachu very cute and think its perfect for some cute nails, and pink make them even more girly. I also just recently became a fan on minion after watching the movies far after others.  I guess I'm slow on movie trends wops.

 

My nails right now. I'm also a hugh fan of sweets! Too bad because I'm on a diet right now and should not eat those kinda things, but it don't harm putting them on nails right? I got a cupcake (yum!), ice cream, bow and a doughnut pluss some heart and dots. 

Having fun with nails are so much easier here than home. In Norway it's hard to find nailart tools, cheap nail polishes, nailart bling, fake nails, super super super nailglue and so on. But in Korea it's easy to find, don't have to order things online. I just go to the shopping malls at Dongdaemun where they sell all kinda fun stuff for nails. I also got my favorite store to buy them at, they always give me discounts and also free stuffs. Love shopping in Korea!!

I got plans to take nailart classes before I go home to Norway (still got years left to live here!). In Norway we can't learn real nailart as here in Asia, like over-the-top nailart. Would love to start my own nailshop like here when I'm back in Norway someday.

I just want to start off by saying that what I write now is my experiences being foreigner and "different" in Korea. And other people might have different experience than I do. 

I remember my first day in Korea. After arriving in Korea I stayed the first days at my friends home because I could not move into my dorm-room before some days after arriving. My friend did not live in Seoul, so I stayed the first day in Gimpo. Not to far from Seoul, but outside Seoul.

I remember we went to the store to buy some foods I could eat, to try to make me feel more like home and find foods I could enjoy. When we went inside the store all the people there had to greet my saying "Hallo" in english, school girls giggeling when greeting me. When we came back home the first thing my friend said to me was "You are like a celebrity!" I guess it was not everyday they could see a weird viking women like me..

The day after me and my friend had his coworkers coming over to his house, because they wanted to see me. Something that I found quite weird. Why did they want to see me?

Here in Norway I'm not used to get many compliments about my look. But from his coworkers all told me how pretty I looked, that my eyes looked like the sea. Because I was not used to hear such things, I really had a hard time saying "thanks" because It kinda felt like they were lying or something loool

My experiences throughout my whole stay,and later travels in Korea has been the same. 

Being in Korea has made me feel better about myself because of many people telling me I look good, something I never hear here back home in Norway. 

I have had people give me discounts when I go shopping because Im pretty, guys working at shops wanting to give me hugs,people on the street giving me complements. 

But the thing I felt was most weird was taking the subway.

It have happen 30392 times that people on the subway has been touching my face, and my hair.I think the combination of being blond,having blue eyes, and curly hair is something that they find super exotic. I mostly had problem with older females touching my face on the subway. The first times I thought WTF are they doing??? But after a while I did not really care, because Im sure they are just curious. 

But I do remember the first time I took the subway with a friend of mine who is dark skinned. While waiting for the train we were just standing there talking when it came 3 older females touching my friends skin, beliving it was not real.

My first semester at school, my teacher start to call me Doll. And many of my Korean friends call me doll also. Strangers also say I look like a doll...I guess for Koreans a doll is blond? Because I can't really understand why they think I look like one. Because I don't. 

Its also very normal that people wanna talk with you. Because they are curious, and want to try to speak english. If you go to a coffeshop/subway or something by yourself, its not unusual for someone to come talking with you,wanting to try out speaking english. Its not everyday people have the opportunity to talk english, so many people,mostly young adults, collage students are very talkative. So if you go alone to Korea, you can easily get friends. I have Korean friends I have met at different coffeeshops etc when I have been alone. Coming over wanting to talk with me, and ending up hanging out later. 

Many Koreans are really curious about foreigners.So don't think people are weird wanting to talk with you, they are just curious when they see foreigners. Its not like here in Norway, where we think people are psycho if someone talk with a stranger on the street.

Now it sound like its only positive being a white foreigner in Korea. But I have had negative experiences also. Like people yelling at me, telling me to get out of their store. Older people at the subway talking bad things about me, thinking I dont understand what they are saying. And older people saying many bad things if I hang out with Korean boys, and even worse if its my boyfriend etc that I hold hands with. Have happen that my Korean friends say "lets go, they are saying mean things about you!".

But honestly, I don't care.Its my choice going to a country where its few foreigners, I did know before going things like this would happen. I can't expect everybody to be nice to me when I go somewhere they are not used to see foreigners everyday. 

But if any of you wanna go to Korea, do it! Instead of being afraid of those stupid people saying bad things about you, be happy everytime someone gives you a compliment! Being In Korea has for me been mostly positive, and I don't let those negative experiences get to me. 

But I do got one advice for people going to Korea. Try to blend in! I don't mean you should try to look Korean or something. But if you wanna be liked, and not having people talk bad about you. Don't dress different, like some alternative fashion. Don't have facial piercings,or crazy hair colors. If you are a foreigner and have some crazy alternative fashion you will likely get more problems fitting in. If you dress like Kpop stars like 2NE1 or something, they will look weirdly at you. So dress normal,have natural hair color, they will mostly likely like you! Korea is not the place to dress to impress, fitting in with the crowd is the way to go!

So my tips are:

*Be natural

*Blend in

*Don't be shy

*learn basic korean

* Try to talk Korean with koreans (they will think you are supersmart)

*Don't care if people are rude or mean against you
